  33. Short Answer Questions

  34. Q14 Outline the four types of teeth commonly found in mammals and name location and the specific function. (4 marks) Answer:Incisors found in the front of the mouth/front teeth, used to grasp, hold and bite the foodCanines are located next to the incisors on both sides, used for stabbing and grippingPremolars are used for chewing, cutting flesh and cracking bones and located alone the checkMolars are located at the very back of the mouth and are used for chewing and grinding

  35. Q15. Define: (3 marks) 1. Impermeable - 2. Permeable - 3. Selectively Permeable – ANSWER: Impermeable - not allowing fluid / molecules to pass throughPermeable - allowing liquid or gas / molecules to pass through itSelectively Permeable - only allow certain molecules to pass through while others are held back.

  36. Q.16 What is the function of Chlorophyll and why is it important in plant cell?     (4 marks) • ANSWER: • Chlorophyll is found in chloroplasts • Are a green pigment which traps sunlight for photosynthesis. • They are very important because the process of photosynthesis made in chlorophyll creates glucose that is a source of food and energy for the plant • the plant will wilt if there was no chlorophyll to create photosynthesis

  37. Q17. Name the two types of digestion, and outline the function. (3 marks). ANSWER: Mechanical/Physical: takes place in the mouth, food is chewed and large chunks are physically broken down into smaller bits.Chemical breakdown: digestive acids in the stomach act on the food and chemically break down the large complex molecules into simpler and smaller molecules.

  38. Homework for the Holidays • Check your email for a document or download from posterous. • Read from page 155 to 175 • Please take notes • There will be a quiz on dot point 4 when you return from holidays. • Finish the questions sheets. (I will email you the answers to the sheets in the 2nd week of the holidays)
