  3. The Christmas Box Story A Story of: • Parental love • Healing • Christmas A widow, Mary Parkins, influenced by past heartbreaks shares an important message, with Richard, a man who moved into Mary’s home with his wife and daughter as caretakers.

  4. Mission Statement The Christmas Box International, in partnership with local, national, and international communities and groups, provides assistance to prevent child abuse and services to improve the quality of life for children who have been abused or neglected.

  8. Child Abuse Types of Abuse: • Physical: Most recognizable forms of abuse • Emotional: Hardest form of abuse to identify • Sexual: Any misuse of a child for sexual pleasure or gratification

  11. Imagine a world without children, how sad and dark those days could be. The joy of having children in our society may be something we take for granted. It’s our responsibilities as parents, neighbors and citizens to take care our children.

Child Protective Services(CPS) • Investigate received referrals • Classified by priority (risk/danger to child) • 3priority labels • “Priority 1: Immediate need of protection—face-to-face contact required within 60 minutes” • “Priority 2: Risk of physical evidence being lost—face-to-face contact required within 24 hours” • “Priority 3: Low risk to child—face-to-face contact required by midnight on the 3rd working day”

  13. The need for Christmas Box House programs and social services expansion. If the capacity of places like the Christmas Box House wasn’t an issue, social workers would have a chance to investigate more cases. Also facilitating the children’s placement from the high risks cases, the social workers would have more time to follow up with the cases that at first look low risk but could potentially be just as bad.

Volunteer Process On-going volunteer • Fill out a volunteer packet • Personal information forms • Background test • Criminal background check • Orientation attendance • Fee for $39.25 for any who lived out of the state or $15.00 for normal residents • Duties • Cooking • Craft planning • Games • Dance classes • Organizing and planning charity events

  26. Children cannot make it through these situations alone. They need volunteers to be their voice and stand up for them. Children need to be shown what it is like to love and to be loved.
