  2. In this topic, you will learn how to create a catalog item.

  3. Create a Catalog Item Click the Maintain Items link.

  4. Create a Catalog Item Click the Add a New Value tab.

  5. Create a Catalog Item Only items marked with an asterisk (*) are required.

  6. Create a Catalog Item Click the Prerequisites link. This link, along with Basic Data, Equivalents, Notes and Attachment, Security, and NY Credits, can also be found at the bottom of the screen.

  7. Create a Catalog Item Use the Catalog Item Pre-requisites page to define required and recommended prerequisites. Prerequisites can be other catalog items or objectives, and they are listed on the enrollment pages.  Please note SLMS does not currently have Objectives configured in the system, but this feature may be added in the future. Before a learner can enroll in an activity when prerequisites are enforced, the learner must complete any required prerequisites or an equivalent catalog item.

  8. Create a Catalog Item You can add prerequisites that are Catalog Items, Objectives, or Programs.  Please note that SLMS does not currently have Objectives configured in the system, but this feature may become available in the future. Select Catalog Item from the list.

  9. Create a Catalog Item The Type field identifies the type of pre-requisite you would like to add. From the Look Up Object page, you can search the catalog to find the item you want to add as a pre-requisite.

  10. Create a Catalog Item Click the Equivalents link.

  11. Create a Catalog Item Use the Catalog Item Equivalents page to identify equivalent Catalog Items and Programs that currently exist in the SLMS catalog.

  12. Create a Catalog Item Click the Notes and Attachments link.

  13. Create a Catalog Item Use the Notes and Attachments page to enter notes and/or attach documents to the Catalog Item you are creating.  You can also provide a link to a website that you want the learner to view.

  14. Create a Catalog Item Use the Security page to share a catalog item with other learning environ-ments and to select the learner groups that can access the catalog item. Click the Learning Environment Lookup icon.

  17. Create a Catalog Item Use the NY Credits page to add any continuing edu-cation units that may exist for the catalog item you are creating.

  20. Create a Catalog Item Click on the Attributes tab at the top of the page.

  21. Create a Catalog Item The Category field defines the category that this item belongs to. When learners browse the catalog by the category you select, only items belonging to that category will be displayed. Click the Add Category link.

  22. Create a Catalog Item There are currently more than 200 categories to choose from in SLMS.

  23. Create a Catalog Item Click the Add Keyword link.

  24. Create a Catalog Item Click on the Lookup icon next to the Keyword Type text box. The Keyword Type field associates keyword types with this catalog item.

  25. Create a Catalog Item Click on the Save link or icon, and the Delivery Method tab will appear next.

  27. Create a Catalog Item Click on the Lookup icon next to the Delivery Method text box.

  28. Create a Catalog Item Scroll down to select the Online delivery method.

  29. Create a Catalog Item Scroll through the rest of the page and click the Save link/icon at the top or bottom of the page.

  30. Create a Catalog Item After saving the delivery method information, the Activities tab will appear at the top of the page.

  31. Create an Activity Click on the Maintain Activities link.

  32. Create an Activity Click on the Add a New Value tab.

  33. Create an Activity Click on the Lookup icon next to the Delivery Method ID text box.

  34. Create an Activity Click the Look Up button.

  35. Create an Activity Click on the drop-down next to Catalog Item Name and select ‘contains’. Enter Calculus in the Catalog Item Name text box. Calculus 101 is returned. Select the Delivery Method ID for Calculus 101.

  36. Create an Activity Click on the Add button.

  37. Create an Activity The Activity Details page defines the general and pricing information for this activity. The system populates most of the fields from the Catalog Item details. You can modify these defaults for the individual activity. Click the Learning Components tab.

  38. Create an Activity Use the Learning Components page to add or remove a learning component to or from a learning activity. Click the Add Component button.

  39. Create an Activity Use the Select Learning Component page to choose the type of component you want to add to this activity. You must select at least one learning component for each activity you create.

  41. Create an Activity Use the Completion page to enter component completion rules. Click the Materials/ Attachments tab.

  42. Create an Activity Use the Materials/ Attachmentspage to add to, edit, or remove attachments from activities. Currently, there are no materials configured in SLMS. Use the Activity Notessection to display notes to learners enrolled in this activity. Click the Activity Costs tab.

  43. Create an Activity Use the Activity Costspage to calculate estimated activity costs. Click the Activity Details tab.

  44. Create an Activity After you finish setting up your activity, with at least one component, you need to return to the Activity Details page to change the status to Active. Click the Status drop-down list, and select the Active item.

  46. Create an Activity Now we’ll set up an activity on Basic Customer Service for IT professionals. Click the Add Component button.

  48. Create an Activity Enter the desired information into the Component Name field. Enter ”Basic Customer Service". Click the Patterns tab.

  49. Create an Activity The activity sessions will be held at the Department of Labor, Building 12 on the Harriman State Campus, Albany, NY. Click the Find Facility button.

  50. Create an Activity We know that facilities on the Harriman Campus begin with the word "campus." Enter the desired information into the Description field. Enter ”campus".
