  2. About Router An internet router has become an indispensable part of the life of business and home owners. These help the users to connect with their loved ones, check out their business emails and browse the cyberspace for any information. Different routers come with different configuration and setup instructions. These can confuse an average user who is not that tech-savvy.

  3. Perfect Location For Router The first thing to do is install the router in an open space such as a floor or on the table. It might not be the permanent location of the device but will provide everyone with a good signal. At times, Wireless routers do need a good positioning and deployment in places that are hard to reach. Once it is placed in a suitable location, users need to switch on the router.

  4. Connect Modem to the Router Older network modems can easily connect via Ethernet cable, but USB connections have gained ground these days. Users’ needs to plug the cable into the router WAN or Internet port. Next, they will need to connect both modem and router properly as loose cable is a common source of network-related issues. Once connected, user should make sure to power off and on the modem for the router to recognize it.

  5. Connect the PC to the Router Users should connect their PC to the router using a network cable. The use of Wi-Fi connection of a wireless router for installation purpose is not recommended. Hence, using a cable router installation will avoid unstable connection. Once the installation is complete, the PC can then be changed to the wireless connection as per need.

  6. Login to the Router The home page of the router will ask the user for a password and username, these two are provided with the documentation of the router. It is recommended that the users change the password for security purpose, only once the installation is complete.

  7. Input the Internet Connection Information Next, the Internet Connection information needs to be entered into the section of the router’s configuration. A typical example can be when using DSL internet, PPPoE username and password are required.

  8. MAC Address Updating A number of internet providers authenticate customers with a MAC address. If the user has an older network router connected to the internet; the provider can track the MAC address. To overcome this, it is recommended to update the MAC address of the router with the MAC address of the device connected earlier.

  9. Confirm the Local Network Connection Users are advised to verify the local network connected between the computer and the router. They will need to check that the computer has received the valid IP address from the router.

  10. Verify Computer is connected to the internet Next, the user will need to open a web browser and visit a website to confirm that the network connection is working.

  11. Connect Additional Computer to the Router When connecting via wireless device, users need to ensure that the network name known as the SSID (Service Set Identifier) matches that of the router.
