  2. Personal Life He was born on January 11th, 1815 in Glasgow, Scotland He had to overcome a lot of sadness He and his family moved to Upper Canada when he was 5 He started his dream to become a lawyer at the age of 15

  3. Family Life He married his first cousin Isabella Clark; who was born in 1843 5 years later she was bedridden with an unknown illness and died in 1857 However they did have a child named John in 1847; unfortunately he died after 13 months John A. Macdonald also had another son named Hugh John Agnes Bernard eventually married him; she was born in 1867 She died a widow in 1891

  4. Political Life -”Politics is a game requiring…an utter felling…if we get the right man in the right place, it does not matter what his race or religion might be” said John A. Macdonald -He won a seat on the town council before moving to provincial politics -Conservative’s was the party he represented -He formed a political bond with George-Étienne Cartier -In 1860 he was named Canada’s most prominent politician.

  5. Accomplishments John A. Macdonald was a lawyer He was one of the Father’s of Confederation He was one of the people who was responsible for the building of the Canadian Pacific Railway John A. Macdonald was the first Prime Minister of Canada He was in rule from 1867-1891

  6. Interesting Facts! John was tall and loose-limbed He had dark unruly hair and a large nose Cartoonists loved to draw him He was apart of an anti-Catholic organization His wife’s death devastated him for a very long time

  7. Conclusion -John A. Macdonald was a flawed and witty man -His organization skills and alliances with George Cartier and the rest of the Father’s of Confederation led to a great formation of Canada -Because of his talents and determination Canada is now one nation and continues to stand strong
