  3. Who Needs To Obey The Gospel? Instead of thinking for ourselves OR Listening to what other tell us… Let the Bible settle the matter! What does the Scripture say? For what does the Scripture say? (Rom. 4:3) Certainly not! Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar. (Rom. 3:4)

  4. Those Guilty of Sin Need To Obey! Jews on Pentecost Acts 2 With lawless hands they crucified the Son of God (v. 22-23). Anytime one does something lawlessly, it is a sin (1Jn. 3:4). Consequence:The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. (Matt. 13:41-42)

  5. What Did the Jews Do To Obey the Gospel? • Heard & were convicted by the truth (Acts 2:36-37) • Commanded to repent & be baptized (2:38) • Encouraged to respond (2:40) • Gladly obeyed & were saved (2:41, 47) Are You Guilty of Sin?

  6. Those Who Sin Ignorantly Need To Obey! Jews on Solomon’s Porch Acts 3 • Rejected the Holy & Just One of God (v. 11-15) • Did it in ignorance (v. 17) • Still sin (v. 19; Lk. 23:34) • Ignorance does not remove guilt (Lev. 4:2; Mt. 22:29) Consequence: in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. (2 Thess. 1:8)

  8. Those Who Accept the Preaching of Christ Need To Obey the Gospel? • The Samaritans (Acts 8) • Philip preached Christ (v. 5) • He preached things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Christ (v. 12) • The Ethiopian Eunuch (Acts 8) • Philip preached Jesus (v. 35)

What Did Those In Acts 8 Do? • The Samaritans (Acts 8) • Heeded the things that were spoken (v. 6) • Believed & were baptized (v. 12-13) • The Ethiopian Eunuch (Acts 8) • Heard the preaching (v. 35) • Believed & confessed (v. 37) • Was baptized (v. 36-38) Will you accept the preaching of Christ?

  10. Those Sincerely Wrong In Their Beliefs Need To Obey the Gospel? • Saul of Tarsus (Acts 9) • Persecuted the church (v. 1-2) • Did so with a clear conscience (Acts 23:1) • How? Conscience conditioned by the word of men instead of the Word of God (Acts 26:9-11) • When his conscience was pricked, he recognized his sins (Acts 9:6-9; 1 Tim. 1:13)

  11. What Did Saul Do? • Instructed to hear (Acts 9:6) • Commanded to call upon the name of the Lord by being baptized to wash his sins (Acts 22:16) • Obeyed the command he was given (Acts 9:18) Are you sincerely wrong in what you have believed?

Those Who Are Morally Good Need To Obey the Gospel? • Examples: • Cornelius (Acts 10:1-2) • Lydia (Acts 16:13-14) • Jailer (Acts 16:27-28) • Does moral goodness alone remove one’s need to obey the gospel? • Cornelius did not think so (10:6, 33) • Lydia did not think so (16:14) • The jailer did not think so (16:30) • Why would anyone else think so?

  13. What Did The Morally Good Do? • Cornelius (Acts 10) • Heard & believed (v. 43) • Was baptized (v. 47-48) • Lydia (Acts 16) • Heard & heeded (v. 14) • Was baptized (v. 15) • Jailer (Acts 16) • Heard the word (v. 32) • Was baptized (v. 33) Are you morally good, but have never been baptized?

Those Whose Baptisms Are Unscriptural Need To Obey the Gospel? • The Twelve Men at Ephesus (Acts 19) • Had been baptized into John’s baptism (v. 3) • Baptism does not save unless it is the one baptism in Ephesians 4:5. • What Did They Do? • They heard the truth and were baptized (v. 5) Have you been scripturally baptized?
