How Magliners Can Reduce Material Handling Risks

Magliner motorized hand trucks assist with moving heavy loads long distances, across all terrains, and up inclines. Among its work-easing, efficiency-improving, and money-saving features are variable speed propulsion reaching 4.3 miles per hour, and the capacity to transport 1,000-pound loads. Every job is safer and goes faster with the right tool.

  1. How Magliners Can Reduce Material Handling Risks There’s an unfortunate irony that applies to a number of occupations that are considered safer than those involving manual labor. That irony is: often those who are the least used to doing heavy lifting are the least prepared to do so safely. As such, employing Magline’s material handling solutions—hand trucks, hand carts, and the like—can reduce risk to employees and financial liability for virtually any sort of business. And thankfully, the variety of Magliner products means that there are models to accommodate virtually anyone who can benefit from one, from office worker to construction worker. Making Material Handling Tools Available For a Magliner to do its job making other peoples’ jobs easier, safer, and more efficient, those people must be aware of them and have access to them. For the office worker moving stacks of printing paper, boxes of reports, electronic equipment, a microwave for the break room, etc., a traditional hand truck is likely sufficient. However, for the warehouse employee, auto parts delivery driver, or anyone else consistently moving far heavier cargo, giving them access to a motorized hand truckthat can help them move heavy loads long distances or up inclines makes more sense. While a traditional hand truck can go a long way to mitigate a number of common workplace injuries, sometimes it’s not the right tool to tackle the big stuff, and an appliance hand truck, powered hand truck, or stair climbing cart may be better equipped for the load or terrain. Saving the Back

  2. Among the most common and debilitating lifting injuries are back injuries. Unfortunately, they’re fairly easy to sustain, requiring nothing more than picking up a load without properly employing leg-lifting; slipping while carrying something heavy and jarring the back in an attempt to save it from falling; or just twisting the wrong way with a heavy load. Fortunately, the use of a Magliner hand truck, hand cart, or dolly helps to ensure the safe transportation of loads, both for the cargo and the mover. For any occupation in which the cargo being transported varies, a convertible hand truck that allows for vertical, horizontal, and often diagonal transportation can prove a tremendous boon. But, as with any equipment, one should be sure to provide proper training to allow for its safe and effective use. Avoiding Slips, Falls, and Other Injuries The most common causes of workplace injuries, by a huge margin, are slips and falls. The likeliness of slips and falls happening can unfortunately be exacerbated when carrying anything bulky or heavy that can obscure the carrier’s vision or throw off their balance. Once again, hand trucks help to mitigate or eliminate many of those risks, while making the process of moving heavy or awkward loads much easier. But, like the momentum of a heavy load wobbling in one’s hands can lead to an injury, momentum can also contribute to falls involving hand trucks if the load being carried on a slope (like a ramp leading out of a truck) is heavier than the mover can control. An effective way to counter that risk is through the use of a motorized hand truck, particularly those equipped with brakes, should a load get away from the mover.
