  4. Purbeck Core Strategy – Next Steps • Adoption anticipated early 2013 as The Purbeck District Local Plan (Part 1) • The first of the planning documents to form the new ‘Local Plan’

  5. Purbeck: Spatial Areas • Five subdivisions • These reflect the character and distinctiveness of Purbeck’s settlements and countryside

  6. Relevant Local Plan Policies Policy NW: North West Purbeck • Includes Bere Regis, Briantspuddle and the surrounding area in the NW of District • Bere Regis identified as the main focus for service provision and housing growth

Policy NW: North West Purbeck The role of Bere Regis will be supported through allocation in the Neighbourhood Plan of: • Some new family and affordable housing to include 50 units within a new settlement extension (40% affordable units) • New informal public open space (SANGs) to be provided in association with the housing allocation • To investigate opportunities for providing a new employment site

  8. Policy NW: North West Purbeck Proposals will also need to investigate the opportunity to provide: • A larger health centre • A new community meeting space • The relocation of Bere Regis School • A review the Settlement Boundary

  11. Planning system reform • Neighbourhood planning – Town and parish councils can produce plans which form part of the local planning framework.

Neighbourhood Planning–Cans & Cant’s • What they can do • Hand some decision making to local people • Set out where new homes, new shops and businesses should go • Say what these things should look like • Propose more development than the Council does • What they can’t do • Stop development already allocated or permitted • Propose policies contrary to the National Planning Policy Framework, the Council’s Local Plan or European legislation • Propose less development than the Council does
