Proposed Boundary Amendment for Boot Key Conservation by City of Marathon

The City of Marathon is proposing a boundary amendment for Boot Key to enhance conservation efforts. Known for its exceptional fall raptor migration, Boot Key averages nearly 800 raptors daily and supports at least 21 imperiled species. The amendment will ensure full conservation ownership and management, allowing public access to the island. This project, which ranks high in priority for federal funding, aims to complement local conservation, education, and heritage trails, facilitating environmental stewardship and improved public engagement.
