  3. 4:17-20 17 Now this I affirm and insist on in the Lord: you must no longer live as the Gentiles live, in the futility of their minds. 18 They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of their ignorance and hardness of heart. 19 They have lost all sensitivity and have abandoned themselves to sensuality, with a continual lust to practice every kind of impurity. 20 That is not the way you learned Christ!

Some Background Context 1:13 In him you also (when you had heardthe word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and had believedin him) were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit… 2:1-3 You were dead through the trespasses and sins in which you once lived, following the course of this world, following the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work among those who are disobedient. All of us once lived among them in the passions of our flesh, following the desires of flesh and senses, and we were by nature children of wrath, like everyone else.
