  3. Our study • 10 people 10 personen • 4 male : 6 female 4 jongens : 6 meisjes • 4 UK, 3 Netherlands, 1 France, 1 Belgium, 1 Norway 4 Engeland, 3 Nederland, 1 Frankrijk, 1 België, 1 Noorwegen

  4. Problems in infancyProblemen in eerste levensjaar • Breathing problems - 8 out of 10 Ademhalingsproblemen • Eye problems - 6 out of 10 Oog problemen • Hands / feet - 5 out of 10 Handen / voeten

  5. Breathing problemsAdemhalingsproblemen • Choanal atresia (congenital nasal airway blockage) choanen atresie (aangeboren verstopping neus) • Small larynx, altered position, small epiglottis Kleine luchtpijp, klein strotteklepje • Often requires nasopharyngeal airway Vaak openhouden luchtweg door neus nodig • Difficult to intubate for anaesthetics Moeilijk intuberen voor narcose • Improves with age Verbetering met de jaren

  14. Implications for medical careKonsekwenties voor medische zorg • Airway obstruction can be a long-term problem Luchtwegproblemen kunnen langdurig zijn • NPA airways preferred to tracheostomy ? Luchtweg liever dan tracheostomie • Jaw surgery may be effective kaakchirurgie kan effectief zijn • Anaesthesia should be safe in experienced hands with appropriate precautions narcose veilig met goede voorzorgsmaatregelen

Implications for medical careKonsekwenties voor medische zorg • Surgery for glaucoma appears effective, but some need eye drops long-term glaucoma chirurgie effectief maar oog druppels soms lang nodig • Surgery for scoliosis can aid mobility and care Chirurgie voor scoliosis goed voor mobiliteit en zorg
