  1. Do our senses tell us all there is to know about reality? Are there other things our senses do not tell us about? Even science can only tell us about the things we can recognise with our senses. If we can’t see/ touch/ hear/ recognise them by our senses, we don’t know they are there… but maybe there is a lot more out there than we can sense…for example – eternal life.

  2. The Glorified Body Why do we need the body to resurrect? • To describe the glorified body according to the New Testament • To give evidence for the NT view of the Glorified body • To evaluate the NT understanding of the glorified body

  3. St Paul’s teaching on the Resurrected BodyAD 53-57, by St Paul (undisputed)1 Cor 15:12–50 2. What does St Paul compare resurrecting the body to? Explain this comparison. **Is it a good comparison?Does it help to explain what will happen? • “ Now, since Christ has been raised from death, how can some of you say that the dead will not be raised to life? If Christ has not been raised from death, then we have nothing to preach and you have nothing to believe, and we would be liars. But the truth is that Christ has been raised from death – and so this is what we do preach – that those who sleep in death will also be raised. 1. How does St Paul try to prove that our bodies will be resurrected? • “Someone will ask, “How can the dead be raised to life? What kind of body will they have?” How foolish! When you plant a seed in the ground, it does not sprout to life unless it dies.” In the same way, the body that dies is like the seed: after it dies, it will come to life again, as the resurrected body. 3. Draw one of the pictures and label it to show what St Paul is saying.

  4. If the body is resurrected into another existence after death, what would this body be like ?

  5. Draw a table with 3 columns. Leave the 3rd blank. Write out the 4 descriptions of the resurrected body, with the correct matching explanation. **What evidence is there that Jesus resurrected body was like this? “This is how it will be when the dead are raised to life. What is sown is perishable; what is raised is imperishable. It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power. It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body.”

  6. Write in the 3rd column how Jesus’ glorified body was like St Paul’s description. **Which aspect of Jesus’ glorified body did you find most surprising? Why? • A Jesus said: “I am the First and the Last.I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! (Rev.1:17-18) C “Jesus came in while the doors were still locked” (John 20:19) • B “As the 2 disciples walked and talked, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; but they were kept from recognizing him.” (Luke 24: 13) • D Jesus said to Mary, "Go and tell my brothers, 'I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.‘ (John 20:17)

  7. What can you remember about what our resurrected bodies will be like? • Imperishable • Powerful • Spiritual (free) • Glorious Does any of this suggest to you that there may be a “world beyond sense” that even science can’t discover?
