  2. Dysphagia is a condition, which is caused due to a weakness or anomaly in one or more nerves/muscles that control all the sensations and movements that are required for swallowing and chewing. • It can happen due to several reasons. Let us look at some of the main causes of dysphagia in adults:

  3. Result of a Stroke • Yes, it is true that dysphagia may occur due to a stroke and can also affect as many as 65% of stroke patients. The elderly especially suffer from this type of dysphagia.

  4. Acid Reflux Disease • Acid reflux disease is another cause of dysphagia. People with the disease have issues in the esophagus, which can include ulcers, narrowing down of the esophagus or even a cancer that can lead to difficulty in swallowing. There are some specific antacid medicines, which can be used to treat this condition.

  5. Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EE) • This is a condition that affects young adults more frequently than others. The symptoms of this disorder are quite similar to the ones that are due to GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease).

  6. Neurological Problems  • Different neurological disorders may cause damage to the brain and the nerves. As a result, it can affect the muscles in the mouth and throat due to weak coordination. Hence, when adults start to chew or swallow food, it can lead to choking, coughing and in severe conditions, it can also lead to a type of pneumonia known as aspiration pneumonia and needs the best dysphagia treatment.

  7. Radiotherapy • Sometimes radiotherapy treatment can lead to scar tissues. This can narrow down the passageway in the throat and the esophagus and therefore, leads to swallowing difficulties.

  8. Myasthenia Gravis • Myasthenia Gravis is a rare condition, which can lead the muscles to become weak. Conclusion • If you live in the UAE and wondering about how to treat this disorder, you can get multiple options when it comes to dysphagia treatment in Dubai. For more insightful write-ups on swallowing disorders, keep a tab on this space.
