  2. Exclusive • Definition: Limited to some people and not available to everyone. • Significance: Charles Wallace only wanted MrsMurry and Meg to be in the kitchen.

  3. prodigious • Definition: Impressive • Significance: The word that Charles Wallace used – exclusive- was very impressive to MrsMurry.

  4. subdued • Definition: To subdue feelings means to make them less strong. • Significance: Meg was not scared of the storm anymore.

  5. straightforward • Definition: A straightforward person is honest and direct, and do not try to hide their feelings. • Significance: Meg’s straightforwardness made her very special and different from other children. • Being straightforward made Meg ‘an odd man out’

  6. Bunsen Burner • Definition: A burner that people use for scientific experiments • Significance: MrsMurry is a forgetful scientist, and Charles Wallace thought that she had left some experiment on the Bunsen burner.

  7. Supine • Definition: Lying flat on your back. • Significance: MrsWhatsit fell off her chair when MrsMurry helped her to take off her boots. • MrsWhatsit is a clumsy person, who doesn’t mind being embarrassed.
