The Language of Composition. (New York: Bedford/St. Martin’s, 2008) 737 – 750. Discuss Answers to “Exploring the Text” questions for the selection above on p.737

  3. Introduction(You may need more than one slide. If so, title each additional slide “Introduction.”) Identify the monument; place it in its context To whom or what is this monument dedicated? Who designed, built, and/or funded it? When was it presented to the public? Describe the location. Who was the primary audience? Current audience? How are people intended to interact with this monument?

  4. Speaker’s intent and or purpose Image Word or phrase to explain (because the real explanation will be presented ORALLY.)

  5. ASSERTION What assertion or main idea does this monument present?

  6. TONE(Write a tone word here.) Image that clearly shows the tone of the monument.

  7. Claim made by the monument(Write the claim here in a complete sentence.) Image to depict the claim. This is a CLAIM SLIDE. You may need three or four “Claim slides” You can incorporate claims with rhetorical devices by presenting a CLAIM SLIDE followed by one or more RHETORICAL DEVICE SLIDES.

  8. Rhetorical Devices(Name the device illustrated.) Present an image that illustrates the device. Explain how this image illustrates the rhetorical device.
