  3. Setting and Atmosphere When I first started reading this novel it was taking place in Africa. After a short period of time there Midnight and his mother moved to America to start a new life. They decide to move to the state of Brooklyn.

  4. Mood The weather is very hot just about all of the time in Africa, and when Midnight moves to Brooklyn it proves to be know different. The mood in this novel is very tense most of the time. There is always fights going on outside and all kinds of guns around.

  5. Characterization Primary The primary character in this novel is Midnight. Midnight is a African American male with an Islamic Religion. He was born in Africa where his dad taught him everything there is to know about how to use and fire guns.

  6. One minor character is Umma. She plays a minor role in this novel because she is mentioned a few times and plays a part in a few important scenes. Secondary

  7. Secondary Another secondary character is Dequan. He plays this role because he forces Midnight to fight everyday for two weeks.

  8. Flat One flat character in this novel is Dequan’s younger brother Demon. He doesn't really play a big role but he is the one who fights midnight a couple of times.

  9. Plot This novel starts out in Midnights home country Africa. After a short period of time Midnight and his mother moved to the United States of America. Midnight experiences a ruff welcoming when a guy named Dequan starts hassling him about the clothes he wears. Dequan wants Midnight to change clothes, but he refuses. Following that Dequan tells Midnight he’ll have to fight his brothers. Midnight is not fazed and shows up everyday for the fight.

  10. After Midnight gains the respect of Dequan he buys two handguns from him. He uses these to protect himself from the streets of Brooklyn. Development

  11. Suspense One suspenseful moment was when Larry Lingers was around the corner with three 11 or 12 year old girls and then Midnight walked up and hit him with a Colt 45.

  12. Conflict Some conflict I have seen is when Midnight had to fight Dequans brothers for two weeks straight. Every couple of days he had to fight an older on then the one before.

  13. Conflict Some more conflict in my novel is when Midnight and his mom cross into the U.S.A the border patrol officers hassle his mom because she is wearing her Islamic clothing. They make her take of her nequab and show her face.

  14. The point of view in this novel is characters point of view, Midnight tells the whole story Point of View

  15. Theme and Style The other uses very strong details in this novel. When talking about drugs, guns, gangs or anything of that nature she includes every little detail. Explicit
