Community Initiative Launches Renewable Heating Solutions with DECC Support

A community project funded by the DECC is encouraging the uptake of renewable heating through local groups. TTM is among 42 selected initiatives across the UK. Despite strict timelines, we've successfully engaged the community with over 500 website hits and 50 expressions of interest. Participants can access bulk buy discounts on solar thermal technologies, biomass boilers, and heat pumps, with hand-holding support for quotes and installations. The final step requires completing grant forms by March 31 for solar thermal projects and by June for heat pumps and biomass installations.

  2. DECC funded project to encourage Renewable Heating uptake through community groups • TTM were one of 42 groups chosen across the UK • Tight deadlines – 6 weeks to set up, promote and sign up people What is it?

  7. Solar Thermal – 9 forms completed, Quotes provided to British Eco who won the tender. Installations need to be completed by 31st March • Heat Pumps/ Biomass – 9 people interested in obtaining quotes. Suppliers have visited and quotes being finalised. Stage 2 Update

Here’s how it works for an example Solar Thermal Quote: Quote Cost = £5,463 RHPP Grant = £700 Calculated energy saving = 2151 kWh per year RHI Calculation 2151 x 17.3p RHI = £372 p.a. 372 x 20 years = £7,442.4 7,442.4 - 700 = £6,742.4 6,742 / 7 years = £963.2 annual payments for 7 years. How the numbers stack up....

Cost of system = £5463.36 Community Discount = £700 Cost saving per year (assuming 4 p/kWh gas) = 2151 x 0.04 = £86 RHI Payment per year = £963.2 Cost of system = £5463.36 - £700 = £4,763.36 Total revenue over 7 years = (963.2 + 86) x 7 = £7,344 Payback in 4.5 years. Extra earnings over 7 years = (7,344 - 4,763) £2,581 (not including energy prices rises). How the numbers stack up....

  11. Solar Thermal – Installations by 31st March. • Heat Pumps/ Biomass - Finalise quotations and support decisions on installations by 31st June. • Everyone needs to complete a grant form before starting installations. What’s Next?
