  29. Project: Water Focus Exploring how to ensure the sustainable management of water resources while providing widespread access to clean water and sanitation. Sector Project: Cement • Cement Sustainability Initiative (CSI) • 18 companies in 100+ countries, representing 60% of production outside China. • Focus • Foster sustainability of the cement sector in e.g. • climate protection, fuels, safety, local impacts • Encourage sector usage of the WBCSD/CSI CO2 • Accounting and Reporting Standard • Continue to build a global database of CO2 and • energy data for the sector • Increase engagement with the sector in emerging • economies • Develop and advocate a global sectoral approach. • http://www.wbcsdcement.org/

  34. Sector Project: Maritime Maritime Sector Project Co-chaired by China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company (COSCO), Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and Leif Hoegh, this new project is in its scoping phase. Looking at sustainability issues affecting the sector, including fuels and climate change, it is aimed at the whole value chain from suppliers to customers.

Sector Project: Tires • Tire Industry Project (TIP) • 11 companies • 80% of world’s current tire production • Focus • evaluate potential health / environmental • impacts of chemicals used in tire production • explore fate and impacts of tire wear particles • during use, resulting in cutting edge research on • particle collection and analysis • conducted a review of end-of-life tire management • practices

  37. Initiatives Issues & Ideas Laboratory A space for members to explore an issue or idea to see if it has enough traction to become a project. Examples Eco Patent Commons

  38. Initiative: Eco Patent Commons Focus Creating an open space where companies can donate patents and innovations that directly or indirectly benefit the environment. Implementation Most successful launch of a WBCSD product to date, the Commons is seeking to expand and is being refined by participating companies. www.wbcsd.org/web/epc/

  42. Learning Modules & Functional Briefs Learning Modules Cater to different learning styles. Currently available: Eco-efficiency and Codes of Conduct. Functional Briefs Making sustainability relevant to specific corporate functions. Currently available: Human Resources and Marketing.

Future Leaders Team Individual benefit A one-year part-time program exploring business implications of sustainable development, working with participants from other companies, cultures and sectors. Company benefit Experience and contacts brought back to the company. WBCSD benefit A fresh perspective and a network of sustainability ambassadors.
