  3. CROSS CULTURAL INTERACTIONS • „When in Rome, do as the Romans do”; • A superficial imitation of the locals may not always be wise at all; • You have to be open, look for common goals and set up common rules that work best in the given context.

WELCOME TO GERMANY • Germany is located in Central Europe; • Is one of the world’s leading economies; • Trading with business partners around the globe has a long history; • Its geographic location andits highly developed infrastructure are significant logistics advantages; • The official language is German.

BUSINESS RELATIONSHIPS • Germans do not need a personal relationship in order to do business; • Germans maintain clear lines of demarcation between people, places and things; • Germans are suspicious of hyperbole or promises that sound too good to be true; • Germans do not have an open-door policy; • Honesty is a key factor and trust is much more easily lost than gained in this country. • Germans can be very sensitive to criticism.

  6. COMMUNICATION STYLE • The country’s official language is German. • Businesspeople may speak a bit louder than those in most other cultures; • Germans put trust and directness before diplomacy; • They may ask for clarifications; • Germans use body language sparingly.

Romanians usually speak softly. Romanians avoid being to direct as they view it as poor manners. DIFFERENCES BETWEEN GERMAN AND ROMANIAN BUSINESS CULTURE;

  8. POSSIBLE MEASURES TO MINIMIZE THE DIFFERENCES. 1. Different perspective regarding business relationship. • Germans already gain our respect and confidence; • We are interested in doing business with Germans because of their main characteristics: order, discipline and precision;

  9. POSSIBLE MEASURES TO MINIMIZE THE DIFFERENCES. 2. The manner of speaking • Chose a restaurant as a place for negociating a business contract is the best decision; • Within a restaurant both Germans and Romanians keep conversation at a quite level.

  10. POSSIBLE MEASURES TO MINIMIZE THE DIFFERENCES. 3. Communication style • If a given situation impose to be directly is not so difficult to cope with it; • If a Romanian businessman has great opportunity for doing business with Germans, I think that Germans directness is not a real impediment.
