  4. Tips for the Critical Reading Section • 1. Work on sentence completion questions first • 2. Remember that difficulty of sentence completion questions increases as you move through a question set • 3. Mark your test booklet • 4. Use POE • Process Of Elimination • 5. To understand definitions of words, think about words you already know

Sentence Completion Questions • 2 types: • Vocabulary in Context Questions • test knowledge and meaning of words, how they are used • Two-blank: Page 31 • One-blank: Example 1, Page 32 • Logic-Based Questions • Test meanings of words, how they are used, and understanding the logic of a complicated sentence • Example 1: Page 32

  8. Some Strategies for Sentence Completion Questions • 1. Start out by reading the entire sentence, saying “blank” for the blank(s) • 2. Fill in the blanks before looking at the choices; then look for a choice similar to the one(s) you thought of • 3. Find the introductory and transitional words • Examples: But, Although, However, Yet, Even Though • These mean two parts of the sentence will contradict, or contrast with each other. • 4. With Two-blank questions, try eliminating some answers based on just one blank • Example 2: Pg 36 • More Tips on Pages 34-36
