  1. By: Sebastian Malewicz Ross Nesbit With the help of Niklas Curle Behavior

  2. Hypothesis If Sebastian walked around uptown on crutches people would treat him differently. More specifically, they would give me looks, and they would be more generous and would be willing to pick up stuff that I dropped and would hold doors open for me.

  3. Materials The materials we used were, crutches, camera, notebook, pen.

  4. The Experiment We conducted the experiment in Uptown Minneapolis over the weekend. Our plan for collecting data was to walk around Uptown normally, see how many people would give Sebastian weird looks, hold open doors for him, and willingly pick stuff up for him. Then do it with him on crutches. We will compare the data we collected when Sebastian was on crutches to the data when he was not on crutches.

  5. Subjects The subjects of our experiment were mainly Sebastian Malewicz. The other subjects, and the people who gave us the reactions that we recorded were pedestrians.

  6. To take note of We understand that people for some reason might take offence to Sebastian pretending to be injured. However, they never found out that I was not injured. What they don’t know won’t hurt them.

  7. Conclusion • While walking around Uptown Minneapolis we concluded that pedestrians are in general, a lot nicer to people on crutches. Our reasoning for this conclusion is, when Sebastian dropped some papers, both indoors and outdoors (in the wind) people would pick the papers up for him. Also people would hold open doors for him. We also noticed that people would give him weird looks more often then usual.

Future Experiment Enhancements • For the future, if we ever do this experiment again we should do it in more than one location. • We could have also conducted the experiment in a more densely populated place. • We should also use more than one person that are different ages and races. • Relating to an animal experiment we think that if an animal is disabled it will be more cared for than an animal without a disability.
