  2. The Nok People Questions • Where in Africa did the civilization develop? • What are some accomplishments of this ancient civilization?

Where They Lived • They lived in North and Central Plains of Nigeria • Lived along Jos Plateau • Also lived along Niger-Benue River Valley • Earliest known inhabitants of Nigeria (Not Africa) • Lived around 500 BC - 200 AD • Discovered in 1940 • They were named after the town they were found in because nobody knows the real name of the tribe

  4. Egyptians began burying dead people with writing about their life. They began developing skills such as glass making. (5000 to 4000 BC) The Nok People thrive in Nigeria. ( 500 BC to 200 AD) Kush rules Egypt from its capital city. (750 to 600 BC) Nubians (Kush), Ethiopia, and Egypt develop and begin to grow as kingdoms.(4000 to 1000 BC) 5000 BC 4000 BC 3000 BC 2000 BC 1000 BC 1000 AD 0 Bantus' Started to move. (1000 to 800 BC) The Time Line! Not To Proportion

  5. Accomplishments • Earliest iron workers in Africa • Made oldest statues in Africa • Made clay sculptures from 4in to life size • Made of terracotta(baked clay) • Most were hollow with holes for eyes, ears, nose, and mouth • Eyes were triangular or Semicircular
