2. The September 11 attacks were a series of coordinated suicide attacks led by Al Qaeda. • 19 hijackers boarded 4 commercial passenger jet airliners. • Flights 93, 11, 77, and 175.

3. The death toll of the attacks was 2995, including all 19 hijackers. • 246 on the 4 planes • 2605 in NYC • 125 at the Pentagon (55 military personell)

4. Bin Laden initially denied any involvement with in the attacks. Osama bin Laden:"I was not involved in the September 11 attacks in the United States nor did I have knowledge of the attacks. There exists a government within a government within the United States. The United States should try to trace the perpetrators of these attacks within itself; to the people who want to make the present century a century of conflict between Islam and Christianity. That secret government must be asked as to who carried out the attacks. ... The American system is totally in control of the Jews, whose first priority is Israel, not the United States.”

7. At 8:46 a.m. American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the World Trade Centers North tower. Followed by United airlines Flight 175 which hit the South tower at 9:03 a.m. • Flight 77 was flown into the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m. • A 4th flight, United airline 93, crashed near Shanksville Pennsylvania. Its ultimate target was thought to be either the Capitol or the White house.

8. A total of 411 emergency workers that responded to the situation died attempting to rescue people and fight fires. FDNY- lost 341 fire fighters - 2 paramedics NYC police department - lost 23 officers Port Authority police department- lost 37 officers and 8 additional EMTs. • About 14,000 people were typically in the Twin Towers by 8:45 a.m. The vast majority of people below the impact zone safely evacuated.

9. 1,366 people died who were at or above the floors of impact in the North Tower and at least 618 in the South Tower. • Over 200 people jumped to their deaths from the burning towers landing on the streets and rooftops of adjacent buildings hundreds of feet below.

10. 8:46-Flight 11 crashes into the WTC North tower at roughly 490 mph. Between floors 94 and 98 8:48-First television report of the incident. 8:50-8:54- Hijacking begins on flight 77 8:54-Flight 77deviates from its assigned course, turning south over Ohio 8:55- President Bush is notified 8:58- Flight 175 takes a heading toward New York 9:03- Flight 175 crashes at about 590 mph into the south face of the South tower between floors 78 and 85 9:03-President Bush enters a classroom at Booker elementary

11. 9:05-Bush starts reading “The Pet Goat,” when Chief of Staff Andrew Card states “ A second plane has hit the second tower. America is under attack” 9:21- All bridges in Manhattan are closed 9:28- Flight 93 is hijacked 9:35- Flight 93 reverses direction over Ohio and starts flying eastwards. 9:37- Flight 77 crashes into the Western side of the Pentagon. All 64 people on board and 125 personnel are killed. 9:43- White house is evacuated. 9:59- South tower begins to collapse 10:03- Flight 93 crashes due to fighting in the cockpit at about 80 mph

12. 9:59- South tower begins to collapse.

13. Weeks after the attack the estimated death toll was over 6000. Only 1600 victims were identified.

14. A tragedy that happened in one day, changed the world forever.
