  1. Web Browser Analysis Tim Tell Global Information Resources ITEC/ LIBM 6375 Summer II/ 2011

  2. Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox have many things in common, the top five categories that I found to be the most important and that all three websites shared are: • 1. Performance. • 2. Ease of Use. • 3. Security. • 4. Reliability. • 5. Privacy

  3. The performance category has 3 subcategories: • Fast startup and shutdown. • Fast JavaScript engines. • Fast loading of popular websites. • The ease of use category also has 3 subcategories: • Simple browsing controls. • Change and add search providers within the search box. • Search provider suggestions as you type in the box. • The security category: • Protection from malicious cross-site scripting attacks. • Protection against phishing attacks.

  4. The reliability category: • Automatic recovery of crashed tabs. • Crashed tabs stay isolated from all other tabs. • If a tab crashes it is automatically reloaded with the same content. • The privacy category: • Capability to prevent others from seeing what sites you have visited. • Control whether third parties can track your browsing history. • Allow users to download free privacy browser extensions such as Ghostery.

  5. Internet explorer uses Trident as the web browser engine. IE also has full hardware acceleration for text, graphics, and video by default. • Google Chrome uses WebKit layout engine. Chrome is also constantly updating and releasing new versions automatically. • Mozilla Firefox uses Gecko layout engine. Firefox is an open-source projects where thousands of independent programmers can work on finding security holes. Firefox is also the first web browser to offer Do Not Track on multiple platforms.

  6. Conclusion My browser of choice is Internet Explorer. IE9 has evolved to become a fast, user friendly browser. I also prefer IE9 because of the hardware acceleration for text and graphics which is very important for my line of work and for the online educational software that we use in Conway Public Schools.
