The light dependent reaction Relate these to GCSE equation
Objectives -Understand that the LIR uses ATP and NADPH as energy sources for the generation of glucose. -Describe the steps in the calvin cycle. -Recall the uses of glucose in the plant.
The light independent reaction Steps • Molecules of CO2 join to molecules of ribulosebiphosphate to make molecules of glycerate 3 phosphate. • Glycerate 3 phosphate is reduced to triose phospahte. ATP and NADPH are required for this process. • Triose phosphate is converted into glucose. This goes on to make useful organic substances for the plant. • The rest of the calvin cycle is used to regenerate ribulosebiphosphate. ATP is also used in this process.
What happens to the glucose produced during the light independent reaction? Some used up for respiration
Explain the trends shown by the graph. GP made from RuBP + CO2 so high levels when CO2present. Cannot be made when no CO2 present and is used up in calvin cycle so level drops. RuBP level rises when no CO2 present as there is no CO2 to combine with so it is not changed into GP.
