  2. Department Organization Building Services The Department is responsible for the School Division's 27 schools and two service facilities. That is over 2.3 millionsquare feetand631 acres. Maintenance Custodial Capital Improvement Program Environmental Management

  3. Maintenance Building & Grounds • Over 40 employees of the Buildings & Grounds Department will work throughout the summer on various tasks including: • Mowing/grounds • Moving furniture • Assisting contractors • Carpentry work • Electrical work • Mechanical work • Plumbing work

  4. Custodial Custodial Work Over 140 employees of the Custodial Department will work throughout the summer on various tasks including: • Detailed cleaning of ALL schools, ceiling to floor. • Floor refinishing • Provide services for numerous summer school programs, CAI, YMCA, CFA, Parks & Rec., sports camps, and community building rentals.

Environmental Management Water Conservation With the help of UVA interns, a concentrated effort to conserve water began during the school year and will continue during the summer . • Water fixture audits conducted at all elementary schools, some middle & high schools • Low-flow sink aerators replaced at 8 schools • Sink flows reduced from ~2.0 gallons per minute (gpm) to 0.5 gpm • Water-efficient fixture upgrades started at Hollymead and Burley

  7. Capital Projects Greer Phase II: Addition & Renovations • Contractor’s work on new building will be complete by August 1st • Contractor work in existing building will be complete by August 15th • Project will be open for the 2012/13 School Year

  9. Capital Projects Albemarle High School: Field House Plaza • Continuation of work done last summer on the track • New paved area will solve persistent drainage issues at the location

  11. Capital Projects Asbestos Removal • Asbestos floor tile will be removed at a total of 23 rooms in 6 schools: • Albemarle HS • Henley MS • Jouett MS • Scottsville ES • Walton MS • Western Albemarle HS

Capital Projects Flooring Replacement Flooring will be replaced with VCT tile in 10 schools including 38 rooms, select office areas, 3 media centers, 1 cafeteria and 4 mobile classrooms. • Albemarle HS • Henley MS • Jouett MS • Scottsville ES • Walton MS • Western Albemarle HS • Brownsville ES • Cale ES • Sutherland MS • Yancey ES BEFORE

  13. Capital Projects Theater Lighting Replacement • The stage lighting & rigging will be replaced at Albemarle & Western Albemarle High Schools. • A portion of the replacements will be an upgrade to energy-efficient LED lights. Existing stage lights at Western

  14. Capital Projects Chiller Replacement • The chillers at Brownsville, Henley & Monticello will be replaced with new equipment. Existing chiller at Brownsville

  15. Capital Projects Burley Serving Line Improvements New serving equipment & appliances will be installed as well as general building improvements to the serving area.

  16. Capital Projects Crozet ADA Front Entrance The front entrance will be modified to include two concrete ramps that are wheel chair accessible and ADA compliant. Rendering by Heyward Boyd Architects

  17. Capital Projects Locker Refurbishment • Lockers will be replaced at Henley and Jouett Middle Schools. • In total about 350 units will be replaced. Typical locker bank to be replaced

  18. Capital Projects Monticello Drop-Off Improvements • The parking lot will be reconfigured for a safer and more efficient layout for student drop-off. • The gravel student parking lot will be paved. Drawing by A. Morton Thomas & Associates

  19. Capital Projects Playground Equipment Playground equipment will be replaced at Murray & Woodbrook Elementary Schools. Each school will receive an upper grade level playground and a lower grade level playground. Rendering of Woodbrook ES by All Recreation of Virginia

  20. Capital Projects Scottsville Kitchen HVAC Installation • Air conditioning will be installed in the kitchen. • The exhaust hoods and ceiling will also be replaced in the area. Picture from kitchen work done last summer

  21. Capital Projects Vehicle Lift Replacement • One below ground vehicle lift will be replaced at the Vehicle Maintenance Facility (VMF). • This is the first year of a multi-year project to replace lifts.

  22. Capital Projects Western Albemarle: Track & Tennis Reconstruction • Project is of similar scope to last summer’s Albemarle project. • Track, field events, and tennis courts will receive new surfaces. • Other general improvements to the area will be made as well.

  23. Capital Projects Western Albemarle: Cafeteria & Auditorium HVAC • The HVAC systems in both the cafeteria & the auditorium will be replaced. • The ceiling & tile flooring in the cafeteria will also be replaced. The lights will be upgraded to LED fixtures.

  24. Capital Projects Media Center Renovations • The media centers at Brownsville, Jouett & Walton will undergo minor renovations • The renovations will update these areas to 21st century learning spaces. Diagram by BCWH Architects
