By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:33-35 • Matt 28:19 - Go & Make Disciple- Maghteuw: ToCause one to become a pupil of. Or To Cause one to become an apprentice. We have been called to win people.

  4. There’s an apparent conflict there: • Grace: Don’t worry about it. • Truth: You better worry about it. • Grace: You’re fine. • Truth: You’re wrong. Not the balance between grace and truth But the full measure of both.

  5. Full Measure – Grace & Truth Dare not lose truth, because sin has a “gotcha.”. You don’t want it to “get ya.” Dare not lose grace, because sin has already gotcha. You need a way back to God.

  7. Matthew 5 1 Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciplescame to him, 2 and he began to teach them. He said: 3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek [gentle, humble, considerate], for they will inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled [with righteousness]. 7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

  8. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. 10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

  9. So, we are supposed to be . . . poor, sad, meek, righteous, merciful, pure, peaceful, persecuted, insulted people waiting for a reward in heaven. • What are you saying Jesus? Then Jesus dives in… 13 “You are the salt of the earth. [I thought we were Christians?) Salt was used as a preservative: a substance added to food to prevent decomposition due to chemical change or bacterial action.]

  10. AS SALT: You are the preservative of the earth. Society preservers: the ingredient that keeps the whole world from rotting faster than it is. Your presence makes a difference. Salt always makes a difference.

  11. 14 “You are the light of the world. A town built (intentionally placed)on a hill cannot be hidden. 15Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand (placed strategically), and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

  13. Don’t settle for Christian. IN Christ, THROUGH your new identity in Christ, you are a disciple. Be saltand Be light. • You are the salt of the earth, a preservative in a world that would rot without you. • You are a light, strategically placed, to draw attention to your Father in heaven.

  14. If you are a Jesus follower today, it is because somebody was salt and/or light to you. Their life is just so flavorful. Their life is just so shiny.

  15. Students: You are the salt/light of your high school, college . . . • Professionals / business ppl: You are the salt and light of your company. • Husbands, Wives, Children: You are the salt & light of your family, your neighbors, your sports team, your community. SALTalways PRESERVE. LIGHTalways Shows The Way. That’s How You CHANGE The World
