  2. Who are we? • We are a partnership of Universities / HEI STEM / Outreach departments who have experience in delivering STEM outreach activities to hard to reach and under-represented groups. • First Campus First Campus is the Reaching Wider partnership in South East Wales, and we are the lead partner. • Reaching Wider South West Wales • Reaching Wider Mid and North Wales • University of Southampton

  3. Who were we targeting? • HEI STEM departments who wish to start or increase their STEM outreach with local schools and colleges and require some support to do so. • Academics • Students • Student Recruitment Officers • Outreach Officers • Widening Access Officers

  4. What is the PTP offering? • Advice - If you have no or limited experience of outreach with schools in the past we can help you get started. • Guidance -If you would to expand your STEM activities but are unsure how to do this we can offer guidance in the form of exemplar activity frameworks, mentoring, event visits and other online resources. • Support - This is available through mentoring which can be by email, over the phone but also face-to-face meetings and visits. We can also point you towards other organisations that may be able to offer information and support. • Funding - PTP participants have been given access to funding for a STEM outreach activity to get them started!

  5. What have participants been asked to do? • Sign up to the PTP through Heads of Departments – hand in the Expression of Interest form. • Run a minimum of one STEM event by July 2012 in addition to any STEM events/outreach you already do (with funding and support). • Develop a ‘teacher forum’ to help guide your outreach activities and improve links between your institution and local schools. • Produce a case study to document your progress and activities run by July 2012. • Produce a strategy for your STEM outreach work for the next 2 years (2012-14).

  6. Timescale • Expressions of interest and confirmation of PTP partnership by 9th January 2012 • Frameworks made available online during Spring term 2012 • Visits to First Campus STEM events Spring and Summer term 2012 • Case studies submitted by July 2012 • Teacher forums set up during project period • Participation meetings February and June 2012

  7. Outcomes - Frameworks • Frameworks – these are step by step guides to tried and tested STEM events and they have been added to the website at http://www.hestem.ac.uk/activity/practice-transfer-partnerships/SRW • These have been written by all partners, and cover a variety of age groups • There is advice on budgets, staffing, rooms, equipment, and a time planner for partners wanting to run these events themselves.

  8. Outcomes – Filmed Events • Three First Campus STEM outreach events have been filmed and made available at http://www.youtube.com/user/TheNHSP#p/a and https://vimeo.com/hestem • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMhGpHsXmCU&list=UUkAaUDzH2QQGBpmEeKALvKQ&index=1&feature=plcp • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5TdOpk8YsI&list=UUkAaUDzH2QQGBpmEeKALvKQ&index=2&feature=plcp • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFbhcow37IE&list=UUkAaUDzH2QQGBpmEeKALvKQ&index=3&feature=plcp

  9. Outcomes – Case Studies • Case Studies are being produced to illustrate how participants have gained from taking part in the project and to pass on their advice and best practice. • Three Case Studies are being produced as a booklet and copies will be available at the end of July 2012. • The booklets will be distributed at the HE STEM National Conference, 4th – 6th September 2012, and e-copies will be made available via the website.
