  3. Thomas Malthus (1766-1834) British scholar and economist. Believed that food production would not keep up with population growth, therefore, famine was inevitable

  4. Famine The Great Famine (India) 1876-78. Caused by drought and “cash crops” lead to the deaths of 6-30 million people Russian Famine 1891-92. Severe cold and government failures lead to the deaths of 500,000 Russians Irish Potato Famine 1845-52. 1 million dead, 1 million emigrate
