  3. To Speak With a Guidance Counselor: Please sign up on the schedule sheet located just outside of my office to meet before school, after school, during lunch or during a study hall.

  4. Requirements for Graduation • 24 Credits Total. • Must pass all 5 parts of the OGT

  5. Language Arts • 4 Credits for required for graduation. 4 for Ohio Honors Diploma. • Most of you will be choosing 2 semester classes or AP English. • If you sign up for a PSEO class, you must attend the PSEO meeting on Wed. February 17 at 7:00 in the PAC!

  6. Mathematics • 3 credits required for graduation. 4 for Honors Diploma. • Most of you will choose to take Integrated IV, Pre-Calc, AP Calc AB/BC, AP Statistics, Math Applications or Math Analysis. • Definitely take math senior year if you are planning to attend college.

  7. Science • 3 credits required for graduation. 4 for Ohio Honors Diploma. • You can take Physics, an AP Science, or electives such as Astronomy, Biotech DNA, Environmental Studies, or a PSEO science. • If you take a PSEO class, you must attend the PSEO meeting on 2/17/10.

  8. Social Studies • 3 credits required for graduation. 4 for Ohio Honors Diploma. • Need: Government and Economics. * You can also take electives such as World Affairs, World Geography, Psychology, Sociology, or CSI.

  9. Health/P.E. • ½ credit of PE (9 and 10) and Health required for graduation. • Consider P.E. Electives such as Wellness, Advanced Wellness, Team Sports, or Lifetime Sports • If you sign up for a PSEO class (Health and Wellness 156), you must attend the PSEO meeting on Wed. Feb. 17 at 7:00 in the PAC.

  10. Business/Technology or Foreign Language or Fine Arts • 1 Credit (any combination) required for graduation. • Fine Art – 1 credit required for Honors Diploma. Recommend 1 credit of Fine Art for college. • Foreign Language – 2 credits required for college. 3 credits of one language or 2 credits each of 2 languages for Ohio Honors Diploma.

  11. Electives • An elective course is any course not required for graduation. • Take enough electives to graduate with 24 credits • Examples: Foreign Language, OWE, Foods, Business, Industrial Tech, Music, etc.

  12. Ohio Honors Diploma • 4 credits each of English, math, science, and social studies • 3 credits of one foreign language or 2 credits of 2 different languages. • One unit of fine arts – art, drama or music. • Maintain a 3.5 GPA OR earn 27 on the ACT or 1210 on the SAT.

  13. College Prep • Meet all requirements for graduation and complete…… • 2 units minimum of 1 foreign language. • 1 unit of fine arts.

  14. What Do Colleges Look For in Students? • GPA: How does the student perform in class on a daily basis? What is the student’s course load and level of difficulty? • SAT/ACT Test Scores: Based on a national average, at what level does this student achieve? • Extra-Curricular Activities: Will this individual be a positive addition to our campus environment? • Community Involvement: What does this student do with his or her time outside of school? • Personal Statement or Essay: Based on his/her writing sample, what more can we learn about this unique individual? Does this student have the potential to grow? Are they intellectually curious? What is their writing ability? • Student Interview: How effectively does the student communicate his/her experiences in high school? How prepared is he/she for a college education?

  15. Grade Promotion • 10th Grade Students - 5.75 credits • 11th Grade Students - 11 credits • 12th Grade Students - 16.50 credits • Graduation - 24 credits

  16. Schedule Changes • Choose classes wisely. • Schedules are not changed often. They will only be changed if you were misplaced academically.

  17. Scheduling Review • Choose an English with your English teacher • Choose a Math with your math teacher • Choose a Science with your science teacher • Social Studies – Government & Economics, or AP Gov. • Choose Electives – Careful! Do not overbook! • Please sign up for at least 6 credits on your sheet and then list additional options under the electives section.

  22. Check each course under the “Add” column and then “Add Checked Courses”

  23. A Confirmation screen will appear notifying you that you have scheduled.

PSEO Opportunities • PSEO Meeting Wednesday, February 17 at 7:00pm in the PAC. • Learn how to earn high school and college credit at the same time! • You must submit a letter of intent to ALHS Guidance by March 31, 2010. • You must apply to the college by June 4, 2010. • PSEO Classes: Photo 151 and 152, Eng 161 and 162, Earth Science 161, Anatomy/Physiology 121, Health and Wellness 156

  25. Reminders: Register for ACT and/or SAT! Start looking at specific college admission requirements. Study for your tests and raise your grade trends! Grading: 40/40/20 for semester grade. Cumulative GPA only changes at the semester!
