  1. AER • AER has been in a financial crisis since 2000. • Up until 2007 we used investments to balance our budget. • Investment principal is now very small (Less than $500,000). • Investment income will no longer be sufficient to balance our budget.

  2. Revenue • Operational income must be increased quickly. • We are increasing our base of membership dues, but that isn’t enough. • Membership dues would have to be increased to $270 per member to balance the budget. • AER is overly dependant on membership dues income; we need to diversify our sources of revenue.

  3. New Revenue Sources • Meeting Registration (every year) • Professional development (on-line and seminar based) • Book Sales • Advertising • JobExchange

  4. Advertising • 2008 advertising income ($15,713) is double what it was in 2007. • We will still probably not make our advertising income budget this year of $20,000. • We think our potential income within the next three years from advertising is between $35,000 to $55,000 annually if handled appropriately. • Organizations that have marketing budgets expect to pay for advertising. • Advertising is a legitimate source of revenue for AER and reflects sound business practice.

  5. JobExchange • JobExchange income ($17,355) is greater than our advertising income ($15,713), however we will not make our JobExchange income budget of $25,000. • We think our potential income within the next three years from JobExchange is between $75,000 to $125,000 annually if handled appropriately. • Large employers typically have recruitment budgets and HR staff.

  6. Listservs • About 30% of our members are on a listserv; AER needs to serve all our members. • Jobs and meeting information posted to the listserv are never seen by 70% of our members. • To attract NEW people into the field, all our jobs need to be in one place, and available to browse; posting jobs to a list doesn’t offer that.

  7. Strategic Plan • AER’s strategic plan lays all this information out in detail. • The plan can be accessed on AER Website (www.aerbvi.org) under “About AER”. • Division and Chapter leaders participated in creating this plan.

  8. About AER • Thank you!
