  1. Is liposuction for you? Liposuction, sometimes referred to as “lipo” by patients, slims and reshapes specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits and improving your body contours and proportion. What areas liposuction can treat? •Jawline, creating a more-defined profile •Neck, leading to a more-youthful-looking appearance •Upper arms, decreasing their size •Back, decreasing irregular fat deposition. •Love handles, making them less noticeable •Waist and buttocks, giving it more contour. •Knees and inner thighs, creating thinner legs •Ankles Liposuction can be performed alone or along with other plastic surgery procedures, such as a facelift, tummy tuck and breast reduction.

  2. What liposuction can’t do Liposuction is not a treatment for obesity or a substitute for proper diet and exercise. It is also not an effective treatment for cellulite—the dimpled skin that typically appears on the thighs, hips and buttocks—or loose saggy skin. Your surgeon may advice combining liposuction with tummy tuck, abdominoplasty or lift procedures to help with skin laxity. Who should consider getting a liposuction? Liposuction is normally done for cosmetic purposes to •Slim and reshape body surfaces like flatten the belly, and slim down hips. •Body asymmetry •Unequal fat distribution in the body. Liposuction can improve the patient’s appearance by providing a more natural looking body fat distribution. •Unsatisfactory results with lifestyle changes. It can also be done for medical reasons, which include: •Lymphedema: A chronic, or long-term, condition in which excess fluid known as lymph collects in tissues, causing swelling. The edema commonly occurs in the arms or legs. •Gynecomastia: Fat which accumulates under a man’s breasts. •Extreme weight loss after morbid obesity: A person who loses at least 40 percent of their BMI. •Lipomas: These are benign, fatty tumors. So who is a good candidate for liposuction? In general, good candidates for a liposuction include: •Adults within 30% of their ideal weight who have firm, elastic skin and good muscle tone •Healthy individuals who do not have a life-threatening illness or medical condition that can impair healing •Non-smoker •Individuals with a positive outlook and specific goals in mind for body contouring

  3. These factors will be evaluated by your specialist before liposuction: •Liposuction is not advisable in pregnant women or within 6 months of pregnancy. The procedure can expose the fetus and even the mother to several risks. •Existing health conditions like Diabetes, Cardiovascular diseases and current medications like anti-platelet or anticoagulant drugs. •Bleeding disorders like haemophilia. •Impaired wound healing due to diseases, use of drugs like steroid or smoking.

  4. •Psychiatric history including history of eating disorders, unattainable expectations from the procedure, body image issues. •Hernias Key factors for good outcomes include: •lifestyle changes (smoking, alcohol, recreation drugs avoidance) •regular exercise •well-balanced diet Need to find out more, if liposuction is for you or not.
