  1. Mobile phones. Technology description & What can audiences do with it? . Audiences like A mobile phone is a technology to make and receive calls. Modern mobile phones also support a wide variety of other services such as text messaging, MMS, email, Internet access, short-range wireless communications (infrared, Bluetooth), business applications, gaming and photography. Mobile phones that offer these are smartphones.

  2. How does it benefit audiences and why do they like it? • They can access details and information about the movie with ease; they can also watch the movie on the go without having to go the cinema. • They are able to know when the films are showing at the cinemas as well as find out up coming premiers, release dates, DVD releases ect. (via the internet) • Being able to access games and apps relating to the movie, as well, is also a benefit.

  3. Does it have any negative effects on audiences? • No as they can access information about the movie and when they they can see it, they can also find out the storyline. The only negative effect is that you can watch them illegally, which won’t benefit the movie.

  4. How has it changed what audiences expect from a media product ? • Now most people have a smartphone they expect that only “great” movies have media products linked to smartphones. For example you can get game apps for the movie, you can get Netflix to watch movies, they have a website to explore everything to know about the movie.  When the new version of Karate kid came out Sony introduced a free game to help promote the film same with the minion game for despicable me 2. The more media products linked to the film the greater the expectation of the film. The Audience expects to access the movie content wherever and whenever they want. They expect flexibility.

  5. How has it changed the way audiences can access/engage with the movie, Anchorman 2? • The audience can access and engage Anchorman 2 on their phones in many ways. For example you can download a game called Anchorman 2: Scotchy Scotch Toss on the windows, android, and apple app stores. You can watch Youtube clips of the film trailer online as well as interacting with it on facebook and twitter too. You can access the storyline, pictures, thumbnail images, play games and activities on the official site and also pre-order the DVD from the website.

  6. How does it help paramount to produce, market, sell and distribute movies? • Through the use of social media that can be accessed on smart phones (twitter, Facebook, instagram for marketing). Can find out what’s popular and what the audiences would like to watch. Can use the internet to sell tickets as well as apps for selling cinema tickets. Can watch trailers on YouTube.

  7. Why do paramount pictures like it? • By using social media to promote the movie it saves money and also they earn money from people watching the movie. Its easy and cheaper to promote through twitter, Facebook etc. Can use apps like YouTube to upload trailers which will encourage people to watch the movie.

  8. Are there any negative effects for Paramount Pictures? • The impact and effects of smartphones on Paramount Pictures is all positive as it earns them more money, due to more publicity etc.

  9. How have Paramount Pictures incorporated it into production, distribution, marketing, content, ect? • Paramount have mostly incorporated mobile phones in the marketing process to watch the trailers, a phone website, Facebook page, YouTube account, twitter account and a game app. When the movie gets distributed there may be a chance of accessing the movie on your phone.

  10. Technological convergence • For an example of technological convergence we looked at ‘Anchorman 2’, this film took advertising to a whole new level. It created a game app for mobile devices, as well as creating a digital download of the movie. They also used social network sites such as twitter, Facebook, yahoo, and msn, creating pages, videos and interactive banners that promoted the movie. • A website was also made just for the movie which again was interactive, and could be accessed through mobile devices. • Other brand tie-ups was Huawei, they are a mobile manufacturer that gave away anchorman 2 cinema tickets with every purchase of its handsets at Carphone warehouse.
