  2. Behind every successful person, there is one elementary truth: somewhere, somehow, someone cared about their growth and development. This person was their Mentor'

  4. Mission Statement • To enhance the development of COBOA members by means of educating, evaluating and providing them with the tools necessary to progress in their officiating careers both on and off the court.

  5. Mentor’s Responsibilities • Agreeing to be a COBOA mentor • fully committing to train, develop and teach the mentee by sharing officiating experiences • Assist mentee in establishing realistic goals/objectives in a pre-season meeting • For not only this season but the future • Observe the mentee and/or mentee crew officiating at least two quarters of his/her respective game. • Document observations in the mentee(COBOA) provided notebook

  6. Mentor’s Responsibilities • Be honest while evaluating and provide concrete and tactful feedback • Take the initiative (stimulate conversation). Act as a sounding board for your mentee • i.e. open lines of communication via cell phone, email, etc. Meet them at COBOA sponsored events. Introduce them to other officials. • Teach the mentee the proper way to manage the controllables • i.e. keeping a current calendar, maintaining various websites, game confirmations, responding to emails, etc.

  7. Mentee’s Responsibilities • Having the desire to be a mentee • not being afraid to ask questions and being receptive to developing a working relationship with a mentor • Be honest and open to mentor feedback • Arrive at game site at time set forth by the league assignor in proper business casual attire and appropriate appearance • i.e.. no jeans, no running suits, no tennis shoes, etc • Establish a list of season goals/objectives • To be discussed at pre season meeting

  8. Mentee Responsibilities • Mentee is encouraged to attend COBOA sponsored social events throughout the season • It is highlyrecommended that the mentee make every effort to observe a minimum of two quarters of the varsity contest • Take notes, ask questions. • Manage the controllables: • i.e. keep your calendar current, maintain various officiating websites, properly confirm your games, respond to emails in a timely fashion, etc.
