  2. Tri - Tres • Tri = Greek Tres = Latin • Means “three” • Example sentence: Poseidon holds a trident, a three-pronged spear.

  3. Trilogy • Greek • A group of three literary or musical works that have a theme • The Hunger Games, Collins popular trilogy, contains these books: The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mocking jay

  4. Logos • Greek • Word or speech • Every company had its own logo

  5. Quartus-Latin Quatuor- Latin • Fourth • Four • Four quarters make a dollar

  6. Centigrade • Latin • Referring to a thermometer scale of 100 degrees where water freezes at 0 degrees and boils at 100 degrees • Depending on how old you are, you might read 38°C as 38 degrees Celsius or 38 degrees centigrade

  7. Decem • Latin • Means “ten” • The water measured out to 4.5 deciliters

  8. Annus • Annus = Latin • Means- “year” • Example sentence: Will trained annually to be ready for his game.

  9. Bi Bi=Latin “two” Some animals are bisexual.

  10. Bicentennial • Bi=Latin • Means “two” • Centum=Latin • Means “hundred” • The bicentennial of the first ten amendments of the U.S. constitution was in 1989.

  11. Trisect • Latin • Means “to divide into three parts” • Example sentence: If you trisect a pizza, you cut it into three pieces.

  12. Secare • Latin • Means “to cut” • Example sentence: When you bisect a square, you end up with two rectangles.

  13. Quadrant • Latin • Means “a quarter of a circle or of its circumference” and “any of the four parts of an area divided by perpendicular lines” • Example sentence: There are 4 quadrants in a graph.

  14. Gradus • Latin • Means “step” • Example sentence: The centigrade scale is easier to make calculations with.

  15. Quartet - Quartus • Quartet= Latin Quartus= Latin • Means “a musical composition for four voices or instruments or a group of four players” • Example Sentence: Robert performed a piece with his quartet.

  16. Decathlon • Decathlon = Greek • Means- “an athletic contest in which each contestant takes part in ten events” • Example sentence: Dillion competed in a decathlon.

  17. Athlon • Athlon= Greek • Means- “contest” • Example Sentence: Mark competes in lots of triathlons.

  18. Triumvirate (Latin) a group of three, especially in authority Ex. The Roman rulers formed a triumvirate.

  19. Triumviri (Latin) • Board of three • The triumvirate included Mark Anthony.

  20. Vir (Latin) • Means man • Ex. The virility of the man was astonishing.

  21. Decimate (Latin) • to destroy a large part of • to kill one in every ten Ex. Dropping a large bomb will decimate everything near it.

  22. Quatrain • Latin • Means “a stanza or group of four lines of poetry” • Most nursery rhymes like “Twinkle, twinkle, little star” are written in quatrains.

  23. Centum • Latin • Means “Hundred” • The concert was held at Centennial Olympic Park.

  24. Centenary • Latin • Means “pertaining to a 100-year period” • The town held a centenary celebration.
