When things aren't going right, it's so easy to put the blame on anything and everything but ourselves. After all, who wants to feel like they've failed? I'm not saying it's okay to start blaming yourself for everything, it is important to understand that focusing on these external factors will not help you in the long run. Instead of running in circles playing the blame game and not getting anywhere, try to be proactive about what you can work on to make the current situation (and any that may arise in the future) better.
The success of others should not be a factor in how you define yourself. Most of the time when we get frustrated with the achievements of others, we are really getting frustrated with ourselves. Whether or not you feel certain people deserve success, focusing on the steps that you need to take to reach your goal is what's important. Remember, this is your life, not theirs. Work hard, engage in positive self-talk, and respect the achievements of others. The positivity that you send out into the universe has ways of coming back around.
To succeed in life, you have to be open to changing, learning, and growing. Makes sense, right? And to change, learn, and grow, you need to have the proper tools. That way, when the opportunities to show your stuff arise, you're ready to take them on and embrace the challenges. The lesson here? Even if swallowing your pride and letting someone help you out feels awkward, you're getting a different perspective on the situation. And that's incredibly valuable to any successful venture.
It's not always easy, but asking for help when you need it shows that you are willing to do what it takes to learn and grow. On the flip side, it shows the people you're asking help from that you trust their opinions and respect their knowledge. Even if you don't end up utilizing their two cents, you've gotten a look at the situation at hand from a different angle and you've passed out some feel-good vibes. Good job, buddy, you've made someone else's day a little brighter.
It's only human to wish that your friends, family, and coworkers could just take a look at you and know exactly what you're thinking. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way in real life. When you're struggling with something, letting others in on it can help. Nothing makes a situation worse than feeling completely alone. The main point? Be honest and express your concerns and needs with those around you; allow them to understand how they can help you out and be part of your support system.
Ready for a good quote? How about this one from Dr. Wayne Dyer: "How people treat you is their karma; how you react is yours." It's so easy to waste so much of our time reacting to the emotional lives of others and getting dragged down. Is that really how you want to spend your life?
We all have a hand in shaping the environment around us (sorry, but it's true). When something doesn't go our way, chances are that there were variables in the situation that we could have controlled. This doesn't mean I'm giving you permission to get down on yourself or that you should have it drilled into your head that you are your own worst enemy. Learn to understand where you hold the power — and take responsibility (it's ok!) — and where you don't (and accept it).
