Assisting Vulnerable Communities in JAMAICA

This presentation by Karleen Jackson highlights the International Care Assessment and Support Services (ICAS) efforts to assist children in care and their carers in the Caribbean, especially in Jamaica. Over the past year, ICAS has successfully received referrals from four local authorities, provided essential training for social care workers, and forged strong partnerships with the CDA and other organizations.   2. What do we offer ? • International Care Assessment and Support Services respond to the needs of Children in Care and their Carers resident within the Caribbean. • The organisation provides a wide range of services commissioned by the placing Local authority to effectively meet their needs.

  3. What has icas achieved in the last year? • Referrals received from 4 local authorities for supervisory visits, assessments and investigational work. • Training provided to workers within the Jamaican social care system • Developed working partnerships with the CDA and other voluntary organizations • Developed practice placements for SW students • Established links across the Caribbean

  6. ICASS Mentoring I was given the opportunity to undertake statutory work on behalf of a UK local authority under the guidance of my practice assessor. This included: Contributing to the completion of the Personal Education Plan Contributing to the statutory review Conducting statutory visits Life story work Mentoring Created by: Janice M.   7. Getting Involved Helped to organise St Ann’s first children march to highlight the issue of child abuse. A successful march through the streets requiring a multi agency approach involving local schools, national youth service, policing and traffic control, media and much more I enjoyed the creative license given to me and so used my skills in workshop design and facilitation utlising drama, music and game exercises to engage the girls on a few themes of self at this residential unit.
