Where does is come from? • Directors' Meeting approved IT Strategy for Eurostat (Doc. 791_2.3) • Product Family Management an inherent part (chapter 4.3 of Doc. 791_2.3_annex A) • Four families to start with: data exchange, production, dissemination and data editing systems. • Petra Sneijers and Alin Popescu are the PFMs (one from solution providers one from users

Overall objective • to involve transparently the user community in the discussion of the EUROSTAT software and product policy • start first with user consultation how to proceed so users have their say and benefit the maximum • The provided document lists various action possibilities for PFMs • Guidelines for the management of the Products on the EUROSTAT Product Family List (PFL)

Agenda • today 14:30 -17:30 – introduction and presentations of the current state of EDIT, its use • Thursday,  03/10/2013;9:30 – 12:30  – training, voluntary session for those who would like to learn more on how to work with EDIT • Friday, 04/10/2013; 9:30 - 12:30 – feedback session from users in the form of round table of discussion in groups

Objectives • Involve user community inside Eurostat to design and improve data editing systems to better match user needs Inform a user community about standard data editing systems their functionality and development/ evolution plans • Provide editing systems developers / maintainers with direction as well as specific functionality to be included in the following versions. • Prioritize user requirements to match available development / maintenance resources. • Provide editing systems implementers with directions as well as guidelines for user friendly way of system implantation. • Inform one another about successful implementations, good practices and lessons learned. • ???

  12. Vocabulary - Editing definition EDITING is the process of detecting and handling errors in data. It usually includes three phases: • the definition of a consistent system of requirements, • their verification of given data, and • elimination or substitution of data which is in contradiction with the defined requirements.
