  2. The Walk to Greatness PetSmart, Inc. is a pet care based company that became a giant in the industry through ethical and social responsibility. Now an international company, PetSmart, Inc. is dedicated to improving the lives of animals and maintaining life-long pet health. The following are company milestones of PetSmart: • 1986: PetSmart found its humble beginnings in the minds of Jim and Janice Dougherty under the name of PetFood Warehouse, having two locations in Arizona. • 1989: PetFood changed their name to PetsMart • 1992: PetSmart opened in-store permanent pet adoption centers called Luv-A-Pet and established in-store vet clinics. Luv-A-Pet provided 6,300 pets with new homes in its first month of operation. • 1993: PetSmart went public on the stock market • 1994 PetSmart Charities is formed • 2002: PetsHotel opens in Phoenix and rapidly expands • 2005: The company undergoes its final name change to PetSmart, Inc. • 2006: PetSmart launches AvoDerm, an organic brand of dog and cat food Kassandra McGlonn (1055.21)

  3. What Does PetSmart Offer? Through their more than 1,160 location in North America, PetSmart offers a variety of services to meet the needs of pets and their owners. Some of these services are: • Products- PetSmart sells its products online and in stores. Some of their products include bedding, litter boxes, pet clothing and accessories, food, toys, gates, doors, lighting, cages, crates, carriers, and more. • Services- PetSmart offers a variety of services including Doggie Day Camp, PetsHotel pet boarding, pet grooming and training, in-store adoptions, in-store veterinary services, and more. • On-line- PetSmart offers links to new pet center web sites, pet care guides, pet care library, and pet community social web sites where pet owners can share stories and make new friends. A Company that Cares About the World • PetSmart helps people locate pets available for adoption at foster networks, shelters, or animal welfare agency. • As of July 18, 2010 PetSmart has helped to save 4,174, 206 lives of animals through adoption assistance and use of their in-store adoption centers. • PetSmart has founded a charity that is focused on helping homeless pets called PetSmart Charities. A Good Choice Ethically and Fiscally • Since achieving it’s national status PetSmart has offered itself as a safe choice for investors world wide on the stock market. • Some financial analyst, like Robert Freedland of www.seekingalpha.com, find the pet industry to be recession resistant. • Petsmart has showed steady increases, an example of which is found in their stocks being traded at $20.35 /share on May 21, 2009 to closing at $30.91/share on June 25, 2010. This amounts to a 51.9% increase in stock value over the last year. • According to Ned Douthat, a Chief Equity Analyst that recently published an article about PetSmart for Forbes Magazine, PetSmart has a history of trading within a set range of price-to-sales and price-to-cash earnings.
