How to Throw a Football. Tyler Fear. Step 1. Hold the football with two hands at the end closest to your body. Make a circle around the tip of the ball. Put your ring and pinky fingers of your throwing hand, on the laces of the ball. Your thumb should be on the bottom side of the football.

  2. Step 1 • Hold the football with two hands at the end closest to your body. • Make a circle around the tip of the ball. • Put your ring and pinky fingers of your throwing hand, on the laces of the ball. • Your thumb should be on the bottom side of the football.

  3. Step 2 • Bring the football directly next to your ear. • Keep your shoulders lateral to your target. • Keep your eyes focused on the target. • Make sure your chest is broad. • Your feet should be a little wider than shoulder width

  4. Step 3 • Keeping your elbow on your throwing arm high, thrust forward • During a throw there should be three places where you could take a “picture” of the target/ • The camera would be on your chest facing your target and that “picture” of the target. • 1 of them being before you throw. • 2 being in the middle of the throw • 3 being after the throw

  5. Step 4 • Your lead foot should be pointed toward your target. • Your back foot is used for power.

  6. Step 5 • The follow through of the throw is one of the most important. • Your throwing hand should go across your body and be placed next to the pocket on your opposite hip. • Your chest should still be big.
