Workshop Title: Safe Schools/Healthy Students- A Model Partnership for Early Intervention and Effective Prevention Presenter: Philip B. Uninsky, Project Director, Cayuga County Safe Schools/Healthy Students Partnership, Inc. Description: The federally-funded Safe Schools/Healthy Students Initiative in Cayuga County, NY is a community-wide collaboration which involves public education, mental health, human services, health, and local law enforcement agencies. Using a research-based framework of strategic interventions that focus on primary and secondary prevention, the project supports the community’s efforts to reduce child abuse and neglect rates, academic failure, school and community-based violence, substance abuse, and delinquency. This workshop will discuss multi-disciplinary risk assessment, coordinated and community-based case management, involvement of law enforcement in schools, and the use of an inclusive partnership model to implement a wide range of age-appropriate and validated programs.
