Basic ideas • The CP-DCN (or SCN) is an IP network • Use IP network management for it • It is TP, so keep out of the model • CP-C management is closer to application management than to network management • You have processes running in your network • They communicate with each other • Essential difference, CP processes control the network, so you need to connect this application management to network management
Control Channel • LMP spec definition of a control channel “a pair of mutually reachable interfaces that are used to enable communication between nodes for routing, signaling, and link management“ • Is this notion specific to the control plane? • Does it represent more than just connectivity? • Not defined in ITU-T documents • The undefined term “Signalling channel” used, with a slightly different meaning
Why model control channels? • Adoption of a well known and standard term. • A single CCh object in the model could be shared by multiple adjacencies • Direct availability of control plane connectivity status in the model, as well as capability to configure the parameters of the LMP failure detection mechanisms. • More intuitive modelling of the GMPLS control channel concept, which would facilitate its understanding.
Why not? • It is not a CP specific concept
How to add CCh to the model • Modelling options • Use the control channel class in substitution of FlowPoints and the FlowPoint-ProtocolAdjacency class • Associate a control channel to two flow points, one at each end. Indirectly, this would relate a control channel to the adjacency that uses it. • Associate control channels both to flow points and to protocol adjacencies. • In all cases, the control channel may be further associated to the LMP adjacency that manages it.
