Scope of the ‘anniversary’workshop Two meetings (in Copenhagen) preceded the10th EIONET WS this year • Workshop on 'Real time air pollution data exchange and forecast in Europe', 7-8 April • Workshop on QA/QC of AQ data-flows + DEM training, 9 – 10 Jun 2005 Sessions of the workshop • AQ data exchange and data guality • Role of AQUILA in QA/QC .., Annette Borowiak, JRC Ispra • Update from DEG, Andrej Kobe, DG Env • Reporting under directives, CAFE and Thematic Strategy on Air Pollution • MSs’ reporting under the Directives, Dick van den Hout, TNO • EU Thematic strategy on Air Pollution.., Andrej Kobe • Exchange of up-to-date information on air quality in Europe • Mikhail Sofiev, FMI, Strategy towards a European AQ Forecasting and IS • Tony Hollingsworth,ECMWF (Global Earth-system Monitoring ..) • Update on EEA/ETC-ACC assessment outputs Country contributions and poster presentations

News from EEA Refocusing of EEA’s work • Based on a strategic agreement with the member countries, European parliament, DG Env, ESTAT and JRC EEA consolidates resources to take the lead in five thematic areas: air quality, climate change, water, biodiversity and land use • EEA provide support for the services of a data centre in five thematic areas, development and streamlining of data flows, establishment (where required) and running of QA/QC procedures, development and support of indicators, production of policy-relevant information and communications with a wide variety of audiences • Sectoral analyses would be embedded in the work in the five major areas, where there would also be a specific focus on policy effectiveness and integrated assessments

AIR AND TRANSPORT Provide support for the development, implementation and evaluation of EU policies in the fields of air pollution and air quality, and provide information and assessments on the impacts of transport on the environment Specific objectives in 2006: • develop the air data centre, focusing on collection, management, quality-assurance and web presentation of air emission and air quality data • help to prepare implementing provisions related to air quality data flows with regards to the revision of the AQ Directives • support the implementation and development of the NEC • assess air quality in local hot spots and European level, report on trends in air emissions and air quality • provide near-real time ozone data on the web • support the evaluation of the IPPC directive • maintain and further develop transport and environment information (TERM fact sheets)to report on the impacts of transport on the environment • assess the use of transport subsidies Main (new) AQ activities planed for 2006 are topics of this workshop
