  6. HOW TO INSTALL LINUX 1) Defrag hard disk 2) Make a back-up copy of the Data (When the machine is currently running Windows) 3) Hard disk partitioning – Use PartitonMagic 8.0 (NORTON) or Linux FIPS (First non-destructiveInteractive Partition Setup) – (Note: FIPS doesnot work on NTFS partitions). . `4) Drop the DVD installer into the optical drive before rebooting. . 5)Make sure the computer is configured to boot from DVD (rather than hard disk). . Usually, you will need to access the PC’s BIOS settings and make sure the DVD drive comes first. (BIOS screen can be accessed on most PCs by pressing Del, F1 or F2 after turning on the power. Namely, during POST (PowerOnSelfTest). Warning:(Do Not, repeat NOT, attempt to access BIOS screen, if you’re not comfortable with it. Because one false move will render the machine un-bootable). . . 6) When the machine is currently running Windows, the installer will set up a ‘Dual boot’ system, whereby you can choose to start Windows or Linux when the PC is turned on. Follow instructions on screen, the wizard will lead you to a successful finish. TIP: Be prepared to have 2 (Two) passwords ready before installing. The 1st one is for the root or administrative purposes. The 2nd one is for individual user purpose.
