  2. The price tag of failing to address unmet need for family planning: • 53 million unwanted pregnancies • 390,000 maternal deaths • 1.6 million newborn deaths • 14.5 million unsafe abortions

  3. The deadlock: unmet need for family planning since 1995

Global Strategy for Women’s and Children’s Health • Country-led health plans, supported by increased, predictable and sustainable investment • Integrated delivery of health services and life-saving interventions • Access prevention, treatment and care • Stronger health systems, with skilled health workers. • Innovative approaches to financing, product development and efficient health service delivery • Improved monitoring and evaluation to ensure the accountability of all actors for results.

Reducing unmet need by 100 million new users will mean: • 56 million fewer unintended pregnancies • 54 million fewer abortions • 110,000 fewer mothers dying in pregnancy and childbirth • 1.4 million fewer infant deaths • meeting the family planning needs of 80% of all women in low- and middle-income countries
