Contrasting Character Samuel Hophni and Phinehas Took what belonged to others (2:12-14) Ministered before the Lord (2:17-18, 26; 3:1) Took what belonged to God (2:15-17) Faithfully spoke God’s Word (3:19-21) Mistreated fellow Israelites (2:22-25) Submitted to Eli’s direction (2:18; 3:1) They made themselves vile (3:13) The people respected him (3:20) They caused people to abhor the sacrifices to God (2:17)

  9. Responsibility to lead cannot be shirked 1 Samuel 2:27-36; 3:11-14 Leadership is a grave responsibility Shirking it does not make it go away God can use you if you accept your responsibilities!
