  3. Derosterhase • Next to the Easter egg, the rabbit is probably the most popular Easter icon; the Easter bunny, symbolizing fertility, was first mentioned in German writings in the 16th century. The bunny was later imported to America by Pennsylvania Dutch settlers, who called it "Oschter Haws" ("Easter Hare").

  4. Eirschuche • In Germany and Austria little nests containing eggs, pastry and candy are placed in hidden spots, and the children believe that the Easter bunny had laid the eggs and brought the candy. This originated in Germany as well
