Case Study: Mrs. Sando Mrs. Sando is 69-year-old and has end-stage ischemic cardiomyopathy. She has become progressively ill and it has become extremely difficult to control her recurrent bouts of congestive heart failure. For the fifth night in a row she is brought in to the emergency room, severely short of breath, by her son. Her cardiologist has said there was "nothing left to do" except keep her comfortable.
