  2. L 2 R: The Other Sean T. Drinkwater ,Liz Enthusiasm & the Duke of Pannekoeken Life Members of the band include The Other Sean T. Drinkwater on synthesizers, vocoder, and other wacky sounds, Liz Enthusiasm on vocals, and the Duke of Pannekoeken(the Symbion Project)on back up vocals and the QY-70. Formed in 1999 and based out of Boston, Freezepop has two full length cd’s released, among with plenty of eps and singles. Topping in college radio and forming a fan base through word of mouth and the internet, they have lots of songs on video games such as Amplitude and Guitar Hero. They have toured through North America and parts of Europe. With sounds like backing to videogames, with a strong sense of electronics, spoken lyrics, and a range of sounds, Freezepop is the rendition of electronic 80s pop. They self released CDs until only recently when they paired with Cordless Recordings

Reviews Freezepop is known for their synth-pop blend of tech and “bleeping and squiggling electronics.1” The “Tetris sound2” comes from their use of the QY-70, and combined with a vocoder, creates the “catchy, danceable, and entertaining2” songs. With a “fun level of goofy strength2” their music has a “poppy beat and tongue in cheek lyrics2.” With an “80’s new wave3” sound with “jumpy3” rhythms, Freezepop combines electronics with lyrics to produce a new form of music entertaining to the masses.

  4. QY-70 The QY-70 is the main instrument Freezepop uses. It is a gameboy looking device that holds all of the tracks for the band! Running on batteries, this is used in every show, and hold the back tracks that the Duke then improvises new sounds on top of. The lack of difference in sounds challenges the band, so on their most recent album the Duke made all of the track “stereo bounces” or recorded different sounds separately, allowing the Duke to manipulate sounds during the mix process. The CDs have a lost of post production on them, so at shows they sometimes use iPods to play the songs and add more synths and vocoder parts live.
