Addressing Approved Transplant Fellowship Training Programs Bylaws

This proposal aims to address the discrepancies between the current Bylaws requirements and the functional operations of the Membership and Professional Standards Committee (MPSC) regarding the approval of transplant fellowship programs. The proposed solutions include removing the requirement for ongoing MPSC review and approval, as well as streamlining and removing duplicative and unenforceable requirements. Implementation will not impact members and is expected to be reviewed by the Board of Directors in December 2017 and implemented by March 1, 2018.

What problem will the proposal solve? • Bylaws requirements differ from MPSC functional operations RE: approval of transplant fellowship programs • Abdominal key personnel Bylaws currently require: • Training at a fellowship “approved by the MPSC” • MPSC review of fellowships “every five years or any time the program director changes." • MPSC does not routinely review or approve fellowship programs

  3. What are the proposed solutions? • Remove Bylaws requiring ongoing MPSC review/approval of transplant fellowship programs • Additional edits to streamline these sections, including removing: • Requirements that are duplicative of other Bylaws • Arbitrary and unenforceable requirements

  4. How will members implement this proposal? • Implementation will not impact members • Changes are operational and reflect current MPSC functions

  5. How will the OPTN implement this proposal? • Anticipated Board of Directors Review – December 2017 • Anticipated Implementation – March 1, 2018
